Chief of Staff of the Libyan Naval Forces commemorates the 36th anniversary of the martyrs of the Gulf of Sirte confrontations between the Libyan Navy and the US Sixth Fleet.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, March 26, 2022 (LANA) - The Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General "Mohamed Al-Haddad", attended Thursday at the Naval Base Tripoli the ceremony of the Chief of Staff commemorating the Libyan Naval Forces for the 36th anniversary of the martyrs of the Gulf of Sirte confrontations between the Libyan Navy and the US Sixth Fleet, in which 58 men were martyred from the Libyan Navy on board the boat Wameed and al-Khafra Ain Zaqout.
The occasion was also attended by the designated Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces, the Head of the Coast Guard and Port Security, Major General "Rida Issa", the Director of the Military Police Department, Major General "Mohamed Shabon", a delegate from the Moral Guidance Department, a number of Libyan army officers, and some survivors of the accident.
The ceremony began with the playing of military music, and then the Chief of the General Staff laid a wreath and recited Al-Fatihah for the souls of the martyrs of the homeland.
After that, a number of naval officers and members of the Libyan army headed on board a naval vessel to the open sea in our territorial waters, where they threw bouquets of roses, and read Al-Fatihah for the pure souls of the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the sake of God and to preserve the dignity, sovereignty, pride and honor of the homeland.
