European Union's Special Envoy for Sahel links stability of Sahel region to stability of Libya.

Rome, 2 February, 2022 (Lana) - The European Union's Special Envoy for the Sahel, Emanuela del Rey, linked the stability of the Sahel region to the stability of Libya, and the stability of Libya to the stability of the region itself. This came when she met on Monday with Stefano Torquetto, commander of the European air and naval operation "IRINI" to monitor the arrival of weapons to Libya at the operation's headquarters in the capital, Rome, according to the Italian agency "AKI". For his part, Torquetto stressed the importance of the European Union’s approach in the region and the extent of interdependence between Libya and the Sahel, and said, “Irini in Greek means peace, and peace is the effect we seek in Libya and the entire Sahel region. The operation supports the implementation of UN resolutions and the provision of stability and security in the central Mediterranean, North Africa and the Sahel.
