He also cautioned that National numbers have been used without the knowledge of their owners by some candidates to obtain recommendations, and we are waiting for the Attorney General to take due measures in this regard.
He also elaborated on the elements of force majeure, including conflicting judicial rulings that were issued outside the legal period, and threats made to the Commission if the final list of candidates was issued with certain names. If the force majeure situation is not lifted, we will consult with the deputies on a new date for the elections, he added.
Al-Sayah also said the process of scrutinizing the candidates’ files encountered confusion after the requests reached 100, and we noticed a huge forgery in the recommendation lists of candidates for the presidential elections, which amounted to 12 files.
He said the Commission is in contact with the Ministry of the Interior and had an ambitious plan to secure the electoral process, but it collided with a political and security reality that prevented the implementation of the plan.
He said “We received, last week, a list of those with criminal records who ran for membership in the House of Representatives.’
Head of the Electoral Commission, Imad al-Sayah further asserted: We noticed that there is a major defect related to the recommendations (references), and ‘we excluded 12 files from the candidates due to fraud’ he added.
