Pulbished on:Tripoli, 5 December 2021 (Lana) The Conference on Environmental Impacts of Pollution kicked off in Tripoli on Sunday. The conference is organized by the Ministry of Environment under the slogan "Our home is our responsibility).
The opening event was attended by Ministers of Environment Ibrahim Al-Arabi, and Civil Service Minister Abdel Fattah al-Khawaja, and a number of specialists and researchers from inside and outside Libya. The Minister of Environment Ibrahim al-Arabi underscored importance of holding this conference to discuss the challenges facing the environment in Libya, namely pollution of all kinds. "This land on which we live is shared with other creatures, such as animals and plants, yet man is the only being who messes with earth so badly that the greatest danger to his place of life is because of the pollution he causes," he said.
"The environment is made up of four elements: air, soil, water and organism that includes plants and animals, and when we talk about environmental pollution, we mean the pollution of one of these elements, air is the essential element that is indispensable to us and this element has been mixed with harmful gases from exhaust fuel smoke and others, resulting in an ozone hole, and experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) said one fifth of the world's population is severely damaged by air pollution, most notably lung cancer.
In his speech, the minister noted that WHO experts have announced that five million people die each year from water pollution, as well as soil contamination from remnants of war and others. He noted that these conferences, which highlight pollution, are supported by the Ministry of Environment, hoping that the participants in this conference will come up with recommendations that we can implement on the ground.
The conference aims to assess the environmental impact of the Corona pandemic, identify the environmental impacts of pollution from various sources on human health and create awareness among decision makers of the importance of caring for environmental protection programs.
