HNEC Clarifies Submission of Candidacy Process
Pulbished on:Tripoli, 17 November, 2021 (Lana) - The High National Elections Commission clarified, Wednesday, that submitting candidacy applications does not necessarily mean acceptance, but that their validity will be considered.
The Commission added, in a statement posted on its website, that the candidacy requests submitted to the Commission do not necessarily mean that the candidate's request has been accepted, but rather it is a process of receiving only. After receiving the request, the completeness of the required documents will be checked, and then referred to the competent authorities for consideration of their validity.
HNEC also explained that once the vetting, verification and scrutiny of the candidates’ applications is completed, and what is known as (initial lists) are published, which are the lists that include the names of the candidates who have fulfilled all the conditions and the supporting documents, the door will be opened for appeals, and they will be considered by the primary and appeal committees in the relevant courts, and it will continue.
This phase lasts 12 days. It further indicated that when the appeals stage is completed and decided upon, the commission will publish what is known as (the final lists), which are the applications that have passed the litigation and appeals stage, and include the names of the approved candidates on the ballot paper that will be delivered to the voter on election day for the purpose of conducting the voting process.
It is noteworthy that the nomination period for the presidential elections began on Monday, 8 November, and will end on the 22nd of this month.
