Pulbished on:Tripoli, 18 October, 2021 (Lana) - The High Representative of the European Union in charge of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr. Josep Borrell, affirmed the European Union's full readiness to provide the necessary and required support for the success of the Libya Stabilization Initiative in order to achieve stability throughout the country.
He explained, "During his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Najla Al-Manqoush, Monday, that the European Union is fully prepared to accompany Libya on its way to the elections next December."
During the meeting, they reviewed the latest developments on the Libyan arena, and the ongoing preparations for Libya to host the work of the International Ministerial Conference on October 21.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister presented an overview of the Libya Stability Initiative with its contents and tracks, stressing the importance of concerted efforts by all local, regional and international efforts to achieve the desired stability, leading to free, fair and transparent elections on their scheduled date, the end of next December.
The Minister explained that addressing the phenomenon of illegal immigration requires concerted efforts by all, stressing that Libya, as a transit country, is itself a victim of this phenomenon, and suffers from its consequences, as a result of the flows of migrants from countries of origin.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation stressed that the remedy or limitation of this phenomenon lies in intensifying international efforts to bring about stability and development in countries of origin, and not only addressing it in transit countries, or monitoring and repelling migrants in transit countries or at sea.
