Tripoli, March 13, 2021 (LANA) - The UN envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis, discussed with European officials the latest developments in Libya and ways to mobilize the support of the international community for the Libyans in their quest to achieve peace, stability, unity and prosperity.

During his visit to Paris, "Kubis" met with high-ranking French officials, to whom he expressed his appreciation for the continued support of President Emmanuel Macron and the French government to the efforts of the United Nations in Libya, and in particular to the Libyan dialogue with its three tracks emanating from the Berlin conference on Libya, according to the mission statement on its website, Friday.

Kubis held talks at the Elysee Palace with the Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, the diplomatic advisor to the French President, Emmanuel Bonn, the Director-General for Political and Security Affairs of the French Foreign Ministry, Philippe Herrera, and the French special envoy to Libya, Frédéric Desagneau.

The meeting praised the "historic unified session" of the House of Representatives, which gave confidence to the government of national unity headed by Abdul Hamid al-Dbaiba, and which opened the way for the transition to the new temporary executive authority and the Presidential Council headed by Muhamad al-Mnifi.

They also expressed their appreciation for the statement of the President of the Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord, Fayez Al-Sarraj, in which he welcomed the vote of the House of Representatives, expressing his readiness to hand over power, renewing the call to all the current Libyan authorities and actors to show the same sense of responsibility, and ensuring that all tasks and powers are handed over to the new executive authority smoothly fast and constructive.

They stressed the importance of proceeding with the terms of implementing the ceasefire agreement signed on October 23, 2020, supporting the new authority in its mission to unify Libya and its institutions, addressing the living conditions of the Libyan people, achieving reconciliation and transitional justice, and preparing the country to hold national elections on December 24, 2021 as listed in the road map approved by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.

The meetings also shed light on ways to enhance respect for the arms embargo imposed by the United Nations and the relevant Security Council resolutions, and to help the Libyans accelerate the process of removing mercenaries.

After Paris, it was the "Geneva" station, where he met the special envoy of the Greek foreign minister, Nikos Dendias, accompanied by a delegation from the Greek Foreign Ministry, who praised the session of the House of Representatives and gave confidence to the Dbaiba government.

Greece renewed its firm support for the positive developments taking place in Libya and the efforts of the United Nations for peace, unity and stability for the benefit of the Libyan people.

Earlier, the Special Envoy briefed the ambassadors and representatives of the countries accredited to Libya on the recent developments in the country and the activities of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.
