Pulbished on:Geneva, 6 February, 2021 (Lana) The Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Stephanie Williams, said that the deadline for the formation of the new government begins today, and the Prime Minister must present his government and his programme on February 26.
Williams added during a press conference held by Mashaa today, Friday, in Geneva, that the House of Representatives must take the necessary steps to fully ratify the unified interim executive authority.
She noted that all the selected members affirmed their commitment to the roadmap that was approved and that the issue of accepting the final results was part of the pledge made by the candidates.
Williams considered that national reconciliation is one of the main tasks of the new government and there is a need to build on the trust that was developed during the political dialogue sessions.
She emphasized that there is a need to meet the date of the elections on December 24, and that the government must provide full and financial support to the electoral commission.
The UN envoy added that the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum will have a central role to ensure that the new authority adheres to the deadlines that have been set. She said that the current government of reconciliation has become a caretaker government until the approval of the unified interim executive authority within 20 days. The UN envoy called on all institutions to fulfill the deadlines set by the Road Map.
