Tripoli, 14 December 2020(Lana) President George Vella linked the
solution of the irregular migration and its threat to Malta on ending
the conflict and restoring stability to Libya.
In a speech marking the 'Republic Day', Vella said end of
conflict in Libya, as negotiations are underway, could signal a step
forward towards a positive solution to the issue of migration.
He expressed hope that the latest developments, namely the
ceasefire and the continuing talks, could lead to a control, by the
new government, of traffickers who constitute a major part of this
phenomenon.
The President expressed his disappointment for failure by EU
members to assist Malta in confronting this challenge.
'Solidarity isn't mere buzz words, I don't see any cooperation
from other member states with states bordering our country, Vella
said.
