Rome, November 21, 2020 (Lana) - Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di
Maio held talks by phone with the UN envoy to Libya, Acting Stephanie
Williams.
The Italian Foreign Ministry said that Di Maio expressed his
satisfaction with the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum adopting a
roadmap in light of the elections scheduled for December 24, 2021,
affirming Italy's full support for the internal dialogue efforts led
by the United Nations Mission in Libya.
Di Maio expressed the hope that the process would remain closely
linked to the mediation of the United Nations and the Berlin process,
and that parallel initiatives that could weaken this frame of
reference would be avoided, stressing the need to protect the Libyan
negotiating space from external and internal interference, according
to the Italian news agency, "Nova."
Di Maio also welcomed the recent developments in the military and
security fields within the Joint Military Committee, especially with
regard to the reopening of the coastal road between Sirt and Misurata
and the withdrawal of forces and foreign fighters from the so-called
"Sirt Triangle."
Di Maio also touched on the positive developments in the economic
field after the resumption of oil production and export, expressing
his hope for progress in unifying the Petroleum Facilities Guard to
protect the oil sites.
