Prosecutor office of the International Criminal Court calls on Saif al-Gaddafi to surrender himself to the Libyan authorities.
Pulbished on:
The Hague, October 31, 2020 (Lana) The office of Fatou Bin Souda,
Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, renewed the call to
Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi to immediately surrender himself to the
competent Libyan authorities so that he can be transferred to the
court.
In its twentieth report submitted to the UN Security Council, the
office indicated that the court had previously informed the UN
Security Council on May 5 that the Appeals Chamber unanimously
rejected the appeal submitted by the accused against the decision to
arrest him, confirming the acceptance of the case against him.
The court criticized the efforts made by the Government of National
Accord, because it had not yet succeeded in securing the arrest of
Saif al-Islam, stressing that Libya is still obligated to arrest Saif
al-Islam Gaddafi and bring him to court.
Concerning the ongoing investigations, tasks and monitoring work
regarding alleged crimes committed in Libya since February 2011, the
court said that the Office of the Prosecutor was able to "make
tangible progress in its investigations and delegated a number of
field missions, including two missions of importance to Libya. These
two tasks had supported mutual cooperation with the relevant national
authorities and stakeholders, and these two tasks enabled the office
to collect important evidence.
The office's report also welcomed the signing of the ceasefire
agreement concluded in Geneva on October 23, expressing the hope that
this would lead to "achieving peace, stability and accountability in
Libya."
