Algeria August 19, 2020 (LANA) - The Algerian authorities temporarily
opened their border crossing with Libya to allow entry of 17 of their
stranded citizens, some of whom were on a work assignment for an oil
drilling company.
The stranded returned across the border crossing in Debdab , on
Tuesday, as part of the evacuation of Algerians abroad due to the
closure of air and land space to travelers following the outbreak of
the Corona virus, according to the statement of the administrative
district of Debdab.
They were transferred to quarantine as a preventive measure, after
they underwent a quick medical examination upon entering the border
crossing.
Weeks ago, Algerians stranded in Libya appealed to the country's
higher authorities to evacuate them after they came to Libya on a
work assignment for an oil drilling company, and they have been
stranded in the Jallo region since last March.
The land border crossing "Debdab-Ghadames" has been closed for years,
and is open temporarily with permission from the Algerian
authorities, in the context of facilitating the evacuation of
Algerians.
