Brussels, July 04, 2020 (Lana) - In agreement with the ambassadors
of European Union countries accredited to Libya, the European Union
mission expressed its support to the National Oil Corporation in its
efforts to resume oil production while seeking to ensure transparency
in the use of oil revenues.
The mission said that the oil closure has deprived the Libyan people
of more than 6 billion US dollars in lost revenue and caused damage
to important infrastructure since January.
The statement issued by the European Union included calling on all
Libyan and regional parties to engage constructively in efforts to
end the closure, while strongly condemning the presence of foreign
mercenaries in Libya, including in the Sharara oil field and any
other infrastructure for the oil sector.
The statement stressed that all actors, Libyan and foreign, must
ensure that the National Oil Corporation is able to perform its vital
tasks without hindrance.
