Algerian President Seeks to Rally Support for Summit on Libya.
Pulbished on:
Algiers, 27 February 2020(Lana) Algerian President Abdel Madjeed
Tebboune arrived in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, his first foreign
visit since his election in December, according to Algerian official
media.
The Libyan file was expected to be on top of the agenda of the
visit, as Algeria is seeking to rally support for its plans to hold a
summit meeting on the crisis in Libya.
Tebboune has repeatedly signalled that he would focus on
internal issues of his country, especially as popular protests
continued for a year now, and which had brought down several senior
frontline officials, and forced President Bouteflika to resign.
But developments and the escalating crisis in the neighbouring
Libya have made foreign affairs a priority for President Tebboune.
The Algerian President has attended the Berlin Conference on
Libya, and the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, but this was his
first international visit.
