Borrell: We Have to Act Not Just Express Concern to End Libyan Crisis.
Pulbished on:
Munich, 17 February 2020(Lana) EU Foreign Affairs Official Josep
Borrell Sunday said Block Government should be ready to intervene in
international crises, or risk their foreign policies face prolonged
stalemate.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference Borrell said 'Europe
should be prepared to use force', explaining that this should not
mean military force alone.'
Addressing leaders, parliamentarians and diplomats, Borrell said
'We have to be able to act, rather than give comments and express
concerns.'
The EU has succeeded in building a 'soft power' through its
economic power, but its influence has diminished because of Donald
Trump's 'America First' policies, which undermined European
priorities.
Several of Trump's decisions contracts European attitudes
including to the Iranian nuclear agreement signed in 2015, and also
the Paris Climate agreement and his recognition of Jerusalem as
capital of Israel.
