EU: Escalating Violence in Libya Led to Higher Casualty Toll Among Civilians.

Tripoli, 16 October 2019(Lana) The European Union on Tuesday called for an immediate halt of the fighting in Libya and a return to the UN-led political talks. 'The escalating violence in Libya is behind the rise in the number of casualties among civilians , the EU said in a statement, indicating that after a year and a half the situation continues to deteriorate. 'The air raid on urban areas in and around Tripoli has caused further suffering to Libyan residents, the statement said, calling on parties to respect the International Humanitarian Law and human rights to protect civilians. The EU said there was no military solution to the Libyan crisis and all parties should stop fighting immediately and return to the political talks under the auspices of the United Nations. =Lana=
