Libyan Italian Joint Committee concerned with migration meets in Tripoli.

Tripoli, 2 July 2018 (Lana) Libyan Italian Joint Committee
concerned with migration met Monday at the Foreign Ministry in
Tripoli. The meeting discussed technical cooperation in the fight
against illegal migration.
The meeting was attended by Head of European Department, Lawi Al
Turjman, ambassador of Italy to Libya and several experts from both
sides.
Al Turjman said in a statement to Lana that the two sides discussed
aspects of technical cooperation and ways to enhance capacities of
Libyan competent security agencies to curtail illegal migration.
The two sides discussed bottlenecks facing fighting illegal
migration and agreed on several technical issues, he added.
For his part the Italian ambassador said the aim of the meeting
is to implement the joint plan to enhance capacities of coast guard,
border security and Libyan navy.
He also said the meeting discussed the support to be offered by
the Italian government to Libya such as patrol boats, vehicles,
equipment and needs of detention centres based on the request of the
Libyan side.
The Italian ambassador renewed his country's commitment to
cooperate with Libya to speed up repatriation in collaboration with
relevant international organizations, asserting that such issues
needed more coordination with migrants countries of origin through
IOM and Refugee Commission.
The Italian ambassador praised rescue efforts by the Libyan side
and bringing back the migrants to the Libyan soil. He said continued
cooperation and partnership between the two countries in line with
the joint committee would be more effective in reducing illegal
migration.
