Tripoli, 18 February 2018(Lana) The Secretary General of the Arab
Maghreb Union Al Tayeb Al Bakoush said the union had no decisive role
in the Libyan crisis citing absence of the Union at international
forums especially the African Union.
When I took over as Secretary General of the Arab Maghreb Union
he found that all African gatherings had signed agreements of
cooperation with the African Union except the Arab Maghreb Union
which did not, hence its absence from the Libyan issue, Al Bakoush
said in statements following a meeting with GNA Foreign Minister
Mohamed Siala here today.
The 2017 was the year when the Union signed up with the African
Union and also with Comesa in which Libya is a prominent member, Al
Bakoush said, noting that the move would give the Union's general
secretariat a place at international forums and thus empower it to
assume a vital role to contribute to the solution of the Libyan
crisis.
