Tripoli, 22.02.2017(Lana) The UN envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler
has expressed profound concern over continuous reports about
dangerous violations of humanitarian international law and human
rights law across Libya, according to a UNSMIL post.
In statement Wednesday, Kobler called on all parties to send a
strong message that such acts are not acceptable at all, and support
such messages with credible investigations to identify the
perpetrators of these crime and hold them to account.
It is high time to end gross violations perpetrated throughout
Libya, and reminded all parties that those responsible for
perpetrating such acts that include holding hostages, torture and
extrajudicial execution, and indiscriminate shelling , descretion of
corpses, or issue orders or failure to prevent it when they are able
to, will be subject to criminal accountability including at the
International Criminal Court, he added.
Kobler warned that the continuing fighting in residential areas
still subjects civilians to danger in an environment rife with
criminal and political kidnapping.
Kobler stressed the need to implement provisions pertaining to
human rights, and security in the Libyan political accord.
