Al Saraj: We Strive to Unite and Upgrade the Military.

Tripoli, 2 February 2107(Lana) The Head of the Presidency
Council of the Government of National Accord Fayez Al Saraj met on
Wednesday the Secretary General of Nato Jens Stoltenberg at the
Alliance's headquarters in Brussels.
The two sides discussed the political and security situation in
Libya .
Stoltenberg said in the press briefing the Alliance strongly
supported the Government of National Accord in Libya led by Fayez Al
Saraj as the sole representative of the Libyan people.
He said he has discussed with Al Saraj what kind of support Nato
can offer to Libya in the areas of security and rebuilding its
military.
'We are prepared to support rebuilding of the defence, the army
staff and the intelligence organizations in the country.
On his part, the Head of the Presidency Council said 'we seek to
work with Nato for establishment of peace and stability in Libya',
stressing the importance of coordination between the security and
military institutions in Libya and Nato, and to make use of the
Alliance's expertise.
The alliance has the expertise which could help upgrade the
security and military capabilities of Libya, obliterated by the
political division.
Cooperation with Nato could involve upgrading institutions needed
for combating terrorism and irregular migration, he said.
The Head of the Presidency Council arrived in Brussels on Tuesday
on a 2 day working visit during which he was expected to meet the
President of the European Council Donald Tusk and the High
Representative of the EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica
Mogherini.
