Tripoli, 10.01.2017(Lana) World Health organization has warned of
the increasing rate of the spread of AIDS in Libya.
Libya's WHO office spokesman, Ahmed Salem said in press
statement Monday that; 'Registered carriers of HIV virus in Libya
estimated at about 6330 individuals'.
The UN spokesman said the latest assessment made by WHO of the
health system in Libya revealed complete collapse of the medical
services in terms of purchasing of medicine and its distribution.
The year 2016 witnessed major deterioration of the Libyan health
system, caused by the acute shortages of medical supplies, and
anti-AIDS drugs, across the country causing the death of many virus
infected people, he added.
Salem explained that among the causes that led to spread of the
disease during 2005 - 2011 were the people were unaware of how HIV
spreads and how to live with the infected people, besides economic
and political causes experienced by the country including illegal
immigration, and AIDS stigma in Libyan society, hindering WHO's HIV
preventive programmes and plans.
