Tripoli, April 10, 2025 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) urged "all eligible voters to register for the 2025 municipal council elections."

In a post on its Facebook page on Thursday, the mission said, "The High National Elections Commission has opened voter registration for the municipal elections in 62 municipalities. Don't miss this opportunity to make a difference. Register today and be part of the change."

It is noteworthy that on March 2, the Chairman of the Commission's Board, Emad Al-Sayeh, received the UN Special Envoy to Libya, Hannah Tetteh, and her accompanying delegation, in the presence of Commission Board members Abdulhakim Al-Shaab and Abu Bakr Marda.

The visit came "as part of the international community's ongoing efforts to support the electoral process in Libya, and is the first of its kind since Tetteh assumed her new duties."

During the meeting, the two sides discussed "a range of important issues related to the electoral process in Libya, including the challenges facing organizing elections under the current circumstances. Particular emphasis was placed on the ongoing preparations for the second round of municipal council elections in 2025, which includes several municipalities across Libya."

The two sides also discussed "the role played by the United Nations in providing technical and advisory support to the Commission, including assistance in managing electoral processes, training staff, and ensuring a safe electoral environment that encourages the participation of all groups, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities."
