Libya and Britain discuss ways to restore air traffic between the two countries

Tripoli, September 3, 2024 (LANA) - The head of the Civil Aviation Authority, "Abdulrahman bin Youssef", discussed with the British Ambassador to Libya, "Martin Longden", ways to restore air traffic between Libya and Britain, especially in cities with large numbers of the Libyan community.

The British Ambassador promised during the meeting held on Monday at the Authority's headquarters in Tripoli; to provide possible facilities on his part to communicate with the competent authorities in his country and facilitate the task of the Civil Aviation Authority in particular.

The Ambassador also praised the advanced technical level and important changes in Libyan civil aviation in the field of aviation safety monitoring in accordance with international rules and standards.

The meeting touched on the general performance rates in implementing the corrective action plans that must be completed to meet international requirements to lift the European ban on Libyan aircraft, as the Assistant Head of the Authority presented a detailed presentation on the completed stages of the comprehensive digital transformation project to address all requirements and shortcomings recorded in civil aviation, which reached a completion rate of about 90%.

The Civil Aviation Authority stated on its official page that the meeting discussed the negative effects of the announcements issued by some countries regarding the low level of security and the continued classification of Libya as a conflict zone, which hinders efforts to restore air traffic to Libyan airspace.
