Japan records the largest decline in its population in 73 years.
Pulbished on:Tokyo - April 12, 2024 (LANA) - Japanese data issued today, Friday, revealed that Japan's population will shrink by about 840,000 people during 2023, the largest natural population decline rate since 1950, in a continuous decline for the 13th year in a row.
Data issued by the Ministry of National Affairs and Communications in Japan stated that the population became approximately 595 thousand people (or 0.48%) less than the previous year.
The data included statistics as of October 1, 2023. It included a total of Japanese citizens, as well as foreigners who live in Japan for a period exceeding 3 months.
The only region where population growth was observed in 2023 was Tokyo. The remaining 46 governorates saw a decline in their population.
