The Council of State and the House of Representatives sign minutes of agreement in Tunisia

Tunisia, March 1, 2024 (LANA) - Members of the Council of State and Parliament meeting in Tunisia signed a minutes of agreement calling for renewed commitment to the electoral laws implemented through the 6+6 Committee and the formation of a new national government that works to achieve the electoral entitlement.

The agreement stressed the need to respect Libyan ownership of the political process and choose the head of the new government through a transparent and fair mechanism, by consensus between the two councils and under the auspices of the UN mission.

The agreement also called on the National Elections Commission to begin implementing electoral laws and to demand that it announce the date of holding the elections.

The agreement included emphasizing the seriousness of what was stated in the Central Bank’s report on the extent of inflation in spending, especially support, expenses, and funding from unknown sources, and the necessity of forming an investigation committee into this and setting binding controls and legislation for the next government to ensure the fight against centralization, support of local units, and the allocations reach directly to the municipalities.
