Tripoli, February 28, 2024 (LANA) - Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, welcomed the statement issued yesterday, Tuesday, by members of the UN Security Council regarding Libya, calling for the necessity of holding general elections as soon as possible.

Al-Dabaiba said on his Facebook page today, Wednesday, “The position of the Security Council announced in the statement is what we have repeatedly called for because it agrees with our vision for a political solution in Libya, which is based on ending the long transitional stages that our country and our people have suffered through, through a fair electoral process, that is transparent and based on fair constitutional and legal foundations".

The Prime Minister added, saying, “This also called us to accept the invitation of the Special Envoy to Libya to the five-year dialogue table and to quickly respond to it. Therefore, we seize the occasion of issuing this statement, to renew our call on all parties to sit at the dialogue table to launch the stage of permanent stability that our people deserve.”

Yesterday, Tuesday, members of the UN Security Council reiterated their “strong commitment to a comprehensive political process led and owned by the Libyans, and facilitated by the United Nations, based on the updated electoral laws agreed upon by the “6+6” committee, in reference to the outputs of the joint committee formed by the two Houses of Representatives and the high council of state.

The members of the Security Council considered, in a press statement, that these outcomes would “enable the holding of free, fair, transparent and inclusive national presidential and parliamentary elections throughout Libya as soon as possible.”
