Benghazi, February 22, 2024 (LANA) - Libya and the United States of America agreed to continue coordination and dialogue to enhance joint action in a way that brings stability and prosperity to the Libyan people.

  This came during a meeting between the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee in the House of Representatives, “Youssef Al-Aqouri,” with the American Chargé d’Affaires, “Jeremy Brent,” at the Council’s headquarters in the city of Benghazi, where the two sides exchanged views on the recent political developments in Libya, according to a statement by Belhaq that he published on Wednesday evening on his official page. .

   During the meeting, Al-Aqouri welcomed the American delegation, stressing the depth of the historical relations between the two countries, offering his thanks for the United States’ standing by the Libyan people. He also stressed the importance of creating the appropriate conditions for holding elections by choosing a unified government and the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from the country and the necessity of progress. In the reconciliation file, stressing the importance of the economic file and distributing oil revenues fairly between the regions of Libya, praising the programs of the American Cooperation Agency, especially to support the south, municipalities, and institutions, demanding that these programs include strengthening the capabilities of the House of Representatives, stressing his keenness to support the work of international institutions such as the World Bank to provide expertise, technical assistance to reconstruct areas affected by Hurricane Daniel,

  Al-Aqouri also stated to the American delegation that among the current priorities is working to secure the Libyan land and sea borders, as the Libyan government assigned by the Council organized an African migration conference to coordinate the efforts of neighboring countries, and an expanded meeting will be organized to discuss securing the Libyan coasts and ways to support the Libyan naval forces to carry out their tasks. We welcome cooperation with the American side in this regard, calling for the opening of the American embassy in Tripoli and the consulate in Benghazi, and facilitating travel procedures for citizens between the two countries.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Al-Aqouri stressed the importance of finding permanent solutions to the Palestinian issue and stopping the violence in Gaza and the blatant violation of religious sanctities in Al-Quds, in the face of the international community’s inability to stop this violence.

For his part, the US Chargé d'Affairs, Jeremy Brent, provided an explanation of Batili's initiative for the five-year national dialogue, pointing to the United States' efforts to unify the Central Bank, unify the military institution, and provide technical support and training to various parties. He also provided an explanation of the stages of work on the ten-year plan to support the stability of Libya.
