Transportation systems are disrupted as frost in northern Europe moves south.

   Oslo, January 05, 2024 (LANA) - The severe frost wave sweeping the northernmost region of Europe has caused major paralysis of transportation systems.

Bloomberg News Agency reported on Friday that temperatures reaching below zero and heavy snow caused the closure of roads and obstructed the movement of trains throughout the region, with an unusual number of flight cancellations.

The agency added, that the icy conditions that resulted in the coldest January in 25 years will spread from parts of Sweden, near the Arctic Circle, to the northern capitals, at the weekend.

Maxar Technologies reported that Helsinki and Stockholm are expected to witness temperatures 20 degrees below zero, while temperatures in Oslo are expected to be 28 degrees below zero, as a minimum today, Friday. While the authorities in Finland asked citizens to conserve energy to avoid power outages, with prices rising to their highest levels ever.
