Berndt meets with Batili and assures him of US support for his efforts to bring together the institutional parties in Libya.

Tripoli, December 10, 2023 (LANA) - The United States, through the Chargé d'Affairs of its Embassy in Libya, "Jeremy Berndt," reaffirmed its strong support for the efforts of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, "Batilli," to bring together the institutional parties in Libya to resolve the political issues that stand in the way of the elections.

This came during the meeting held today, Saturday, between Berndt and Abdullah Batili.

The US Chargé d'Affaires said in a tweet on the "X" social network (In my meeting today with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, I expressed the United States' strong support for his efforts to bring together the institutional parties in Libya to resolve the political issues that stand in the way of the elections).

Berndt added, saying, “We urge all actors to name their representatives as soon as possible to participate in the preparatory talks for the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and to enter into a constructive dialogue to put Libya on the path to long-term stability.”

In turn, the UN envoy, Abdullah Batili, said in a similar tweet on the “X” website: “Today, I exchanged views with the Charge d’Affairs of the American Embassy, Jeremy Berndt, and we reviewed the political developments in Libya and the current situation, including the efforts of the United Nations mission to hold a meeting that includes the parties the five main issues, with the involvement of other relevant parties regarding the path towards elections."
