Moroccan Foreign Minister to Batelli: We support the United Nations efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis.

Rabat, November 24, 2023 (LANA) - Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita confirmed that his country continuously supports United Nations efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis.

In a joint press conference with the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Abdullah Bateli, following their discussions yesterday, Thursday in Rabat, Bourita, reiterated Morocco’s support for all Bateli’s relevant efforts, according to an approach that builds on trust and helping the Libyans themselves to Find a solution to their problems.

He stressed that Morocco always considers holding elections to be the most appropriate solution to this institutional crisis, and stresses that these elections should be the starting point for a new phase to achieve stability, legitimacy, and respond to the requirements of the Libyan people.

He pointed out that Morocco has always stressed that the settlement of the Libyan crisis will not come from abroad, but rather must come from the Libyans themselves.

For his part, the head of the UN mission in Libya, Abdullah Batili, said that the Libyan people and the international community as a whole look forward to establishing peace in this country, indicating the repercussions of this tension on security in the region and the world, given the geopolitical location of Libya.

Batili said, “We are grateful for Morocco’s support in this context, and we seek to continue its efforts to keep pace with this political path, and we are in the process of activating the laws regulating the elections and the agreements related to them.”
