Tripoli, September 25, 2023 (LANA) - Today, Monday, the representative of the Presidential Council, “Abdullah Al-Lafi,” received the Turkish ambassador to Libya, “Kanaan Yilmaz,” who offered condolences to the Libyan people for the victims of the floods and torrents that swept through the cities of eastern Libya, and followed up on developments in the humanitarian situation in the city of Derna, and the rest of the affected cities.

Al-Lafi appreciated the efforts of the State of Turkey since the disaster occurred, by quickly operating an air relief bridge, sending specialized rescue teams with experience in dealing with natural disasters, and establishing a field hospital to contribute to the local and international effort to save lives and remove those trapped under the rubble, reiterating the importance of the existence of a unified administration to manage the crisis in the city of Derna, and other affected cities, to overcome the repercussions of this disaster.

For his part, the Turkish ambassador affirmed his country’s readiness to provide all the necessary needs in order to help the cities afflicted by floods to overcome this crisis, noting that his arrival as the first resident ambassador in Libya to the affected areas expresses Turkey’s standing and support for the Libyan people, who supported his country during the disaster, the earthquakes that occurred last February, due to considerations of the fraternal and historical ties that unite the two countries.
