China sends 90 tons of urgent humanitarian aid to Libya to confront the repercussions of Storm Daniel

Benghazi, September 25, 2023 (LANA) A Chinese cargo plane arrived at Benina Airport in the city of Benghazi yesterday, Sunday, carrying about 90 tons of urgent humanitarian aid provided by the Chinese government to Libya to contribute to alleviating the impact of the repercussions of tropical storm (Daniel) that struck the coast of Eastern Libya on September 10th.

The Chinese cargo plane was received upon its arrival at Benina International Airport by the Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Libya, Liu Jian, and the Chargé d'Affairs of the Libyan Embassy in China, Khaled Al-Sayeh, in addition to the Secretary-General of the Libyan Red Crescent Society, Omar Boudbous.

The Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Libya said in a press statement, "The people of Libya and China share weal and woe despite the long distance that separates the two friendly countries."

He added, "The two countries have constantly exchanged support over the past 45 years since the diplomatic exchange between them," noting that immediately after the floods and torrents occurred in Libya, President Xi Jinping sent a telegram of condolence to the President of the Presidential Council, Muhammad Al-Manfi.

He stressed that the Chinese side is ready to maintain communication and coordination with the Libyan side to provide greater contributions to support Libya in facing the effects of floods and torrents and reconstruction, expressing his hope that Chinese aid will contribute to overcoming the effects of the disaster and restoring the natural order in the stricken area in Libya at an early date. .

In turn, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Libyan Embassy in China, Khaled Al-Sayeh, said in a press statement to the official Chinese News Agency (Xinhua) that the aid and strong support from the Chinese government for the Libyan side came at a timely manner, which reflects the deep friendship between the two countries.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Libyan Red Crescent Society expressed the Libyan people’s thanks and gratitude for the efforts made by China, pointing out that Libya is capable of overcoming the effects of floods and torrents and rebuilding the country with the support of China and other friendly countries.

It is noteworthy that the Chinese Red Cross had provided urgent cash aid worth $200,000 to the Libyan Red Crescent.

  According to Xinhua News Agency, the Chinese cargo plane carried about 90 tons of emergency humanitarian aid to Libya, worth an estimated 30 million Chinese yuan, and includes tents, blankets, first aid kits, manual pressurized water treatment equipment, ultrasound diagnostic systems, life jackets and other relief materials. .

Xinhua indicated that this assistance will contribute to the ongoing rescue efforts in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Daniel, especially water treatment equipment after the Libyan authorities announced it was contaminated as a result of mixing with sewage and causing 55 cases of poisoning, most of them children.
