Italy announces the delivery of two boats to the Libyan Coast Guard in the coming days.

Rome, March 17, 2023 (LANA) - The Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, "Antonio Taiani," announced that his country's authorities intend to provide assistance to the Libyan Coast Guard to combat irregular migration.

The Italian news agency (Aki) quoted, that Taiani in an interview with a local TV channel yesterday, Thursday, as saying “We are increasing assistance to the Libyan Coast Guard, and after we handed it a patrol boat, we will deliver two more boats in the next few days in Messina (Sicily) so that it can prevent the departure of migrant boats from the Libyan coast.

  The head of the Italian diplomacy, referred to the presence of the European Agency for Border and Coast Guard (Frontex) in the Mediterranean waters, but he certainly added that there is a need for more European presence and for a strong intervention to prevent departures, especially from Tunisia and Libya.
