Tripoli, January 8, 2023 (LANA) - The Minister of Oil and Gas, “Mohammed Aoun,” confirmed that Libya’s production of crude oil is witnessing a gradual increase in 2023, expecting it to reach two million barrels per day within 3 years.

Aoun expected, in an interview with Al-Jazeera Mubasher, that the increase in production for the current year would be 1.3 million barrels per day, according to the corporation's activity and its completion of exploratory projects.

Aoun revealed that Libya ranks fifth in the world in the production of shale gas reserves in addition to the normal ones, indicating that the daily production has reached more than two and a half billion cubic meters, and that the goal is to develop gas explorations to suffice internally for the service sectors in the country and export the surplus.

Aoun pointed out that there are areas that have not been explored and that no surveys have been conducted, whether by land or sea, and that geological studies prove the existence of these stocks in the Libyan economic waters in the eastern and western Mediterranean, hoping to benefit from these explorations in developing the country's infrastructure.

Aoun expressed his regret that some countries have taken “unilateral measures” regarding the demarcation of the maritime borders with Libya, explaining that these problems can be resolved amicably with the Mediterranean countries for the continuation of the exploration and excavation process.
