Guterres suggests to UN Security Council new candidate to head the UN mission in Libya.

    New York, 13 August 2022 (Lana) UN Security Council will hold a meeting on Libya on Monday, during which the UN Secretary-General is expected to suggest the appointment of a new head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

 Diplomatic sources said the new candidate for the post of Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is former Senegalese Minister Abdallah Betaly, who must be approved by the UN Security Council before being appointed.

If Abdallah Betaly is appointed head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), the envoy will be number 8 after U.S. Stephanie Williams, Slovak Jan Kubić, Lebanese Ghassan Salamé, German Martin Kobler, Spaniard Bernardino Leon, Lebanese Tarek Mitri, British Ian Martin and Jordanian Abd Allah Al Khatib.
