Al-Sunni warns Belgium not to harm the frozen Libyan funds.

Tripoli, 7 February, 2021 (Lana) - Libya's representative to the United Nations, Al-Taher Al-Sunni, warned Belgium of its attempts to get its hands on 49 million euros of Libyan funds frozen there. "I advise Belgium to back off, as this will not happen," he added, tweeting on "Twitter." He continued, "At a time when the Libyans seek to reunify and arrange for a new phase, Belgium is trying to exploit the circumstance by addressing the sanctions committee to seize the 49 million euros of frozen funds."

Al-Sunni indicated that, in coordination with the Investment Corporation, the Security Council was informed of our refusal and our warning, stressing that several countries confirmed their support for this position.

The Belgian Finance Minister informed the United Nations sanctions committee last January to lift the freeze on part of the frozen Libyan assets, and to deduct dues from the Libyan state.
