Italian Coast Guard Rescues 2000 in the Mediterranean.

Rome, 12 April 2016(Lana) Italian coast guard announced that it had rescued 1850 migrants on Monday in separate operations in the canal that separates Italy from Libyan coasts. A statement issued by the Italian coast guard said Italian vessel Diocotte has extended assistance to two rubber dinghies carrying 740, while the navy ship Sigala Volgosi helped two other boats carrying 225 migrants. The coast guard operation centre has sought the assistance of a commercial vessel to save 117 migrants. The Frankfurt ship which part of the European operation has rescued 738 who were on three boats. According to figures released by the UN High Commission for Refugees UNHCR more than 17,000 have arrived in Italy since the beginning of the year. =Lana=
