Pulbished on:

Tripoli, November 8, 2026 (LANA) – The Abu Salim Education Directorate has announced the official resumption of classes across all schools in the municipality starting tomorrow, Monday.

In a statement, the Directorate said the decision to resume classes followed an emergency meeting attended by Major General Ali Al-Jabri, Deputy Head of the Directorate Support Agency, the Abu Salim Municipal Education Supervisor, the Mayor of Abu Salim Municipality, the Head of the Follow-up and Performance Evaluation Department at the Directorate, the Director of the Secondary Education Office, the Director of the Basic Education Office, a representative of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, and the elected Head of the Abu Salim Teachers' Union.

The Directorate explained that the meeting reviewed the latest developments concerning the teachers' strike, which has continued for more than two months and has negatively affected the progress of the educational process.

It added that the decision to resume classes was taken in response to growing dissatisfaction among students' parents, particularly those whose children are sitting for the preparatory and secondary school certificate examinations, and their repeated and urgent demands for the resumption of classes.

The Directorate also pointed to the continuation of classes in private schools and the resumption of education in several municipalities and education directorates across Libya, stating that the continued suspension of classes constitutes a failure to uphold the responsibility entrusted to the authorities and deprives students of their fundamental right to education.

The Teachers' Union expressed its understanding of teachers' difficult circumstances and their legitimate right to a decent living and to demand their lawful entitlements. It also confirmed that work is underway to establish a mechanism for disbursing the financial differences stipulated under Law No. 4 of 2018, prepare payment orders for eligible teachers' class allowances, and begin implementing health insurance for the education sector, according to the relevant authorities.

The Directorate confirmed that it was agreed during the meeting to issue instructions to all school principals and teachers to receive students and resume classes at all educational levels, in accordance with directives received from the relevant authorities, while taking all necessary measures to guarantee students' right to education.

It called on all concerned parties, each within their respective responsibilities, to follow up on the resumption of classes beginning Monday, November 9, 2026.
