Al-Trabelsi emphasizes coordination with the International Organization for Migration to support programs for the return of migrants to their home countries

Tripoli – November 8, 2026 – (LANA) – Imad al-Trabelsi, Minister of Interior in the Government of National Unity, met today, Sunday, at the Ministry’s headquarters with the Regional Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The discussion focused on strengthening cooperation and coordination regarding migration management, the voluntary return and repatriation of migrants to their countries of origin, and supporting efforts to secure and manage borders.

During the meeting, Al-Trabelsi emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to address the challenges of irregular migration, accelerating the process of returning migrants to their home countries, and enhancing coordination with the IOM to support return programs in accordance with established legal frameworks and humanitarian standards.

He further stressed the necessity of continued cooperation and the provision of technical and logistical support to the relevant authorities, as well as strengthening their capacities in border management and combating migrant smuggling, thereby contributing to the development of mechanisms to respond to migration-related challenges.
