Sabha, November 2, 2026 (LANA) – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Al-Salihin Abdul Nabi, affirmed that holding a session of the House in the city of Sabha—for the first time in Libyan history—embodies the unity of the country and underscores the legislative body’s commitment to strengthening the presence of state institutions across all regions of the nation.
In a speech delivered during the session held this Monday in Sabha, Abdul Nabi explained that the choice of the city to host the meeting carries a national message: that national institutions belong to all Libyans, and that the South is an essential partner in building the state and achieving its stability and prosperity.
He noted that holding the session in the South reflects a focus on the concerns and aspirations of its residents, as well as their right to development, improved services, and active participation in national decision-making. He emphasized the necessity of achieving balanced development across all parts of the country, while upholding the principles of justice and equal opportunity.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives called for continued efforts to overcome differences, prioritize the national interest, and foster consensus among Libyans—all of which contribute to unifying state institutions, safeguarding national sovereignty, and consolidating the rule of law and constitutional institutions.
He expressed his hope that this session would serve as a step toward strengthening the parliamentary presence in various Libyan cities, expanding direct engagement with citizens, listening to their demands and needs, and working to incorporate these into the House’s priorities.
Abdul Nabi stressed that the diversity of cities and regions should be a source of enrichment rather than a cause for division, noting that building the state is a shared national responsibility that requires the concerted efforts of all Libyans. In his concluding remarks, the Speaker of the House of Representatives expressed his appreciation for the stance taken by the people of Sabha and the various components of Libya’s southern region, as well as for the efforts that contributed to the successful convening of the session. He further expressed his hope that this occasion would serve as a step toward strengthening national unity and realizing the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, stability, and development.
