Benghazi, November 1, 2026 (LANA) – Investigations conducted by the Greater Benghazi Security Operations Branch led to the arrest of two individuals suspected of forging bank deposit slips and using them to defraud merchants by presenting falsified documents purporting to show that funds had been deposited into their bank accounts in exchange for obtaining goods or cash.
The arrests followed a complaint filed by a merchant who raised suspicions about one of the individuals. Subsequently, investigation and surveillance procedures were initiated under the supervision of the Branch Director, Colonel Mahmoud Buhairi. A security ambush was then arranged, resulting in the arrest of the first suspect, who holds Palestinian nationality.
According to the investigation records, the first suspect disclosed that he had been working with another individual of Sudanese nationality. Security investigations subsequently led to the arrest of the second suspect, who admitted to forging bank deposit slips using applications on his mobile phone and manipulating the amounts and deposit dates stated on the documents.
The investigation procedures involving both suspects were completed, and they were referred to the competent Public Prosecution to continue the legal proceedings. The incident was registered as a case under the territorial jurisdiction of Ras Ubaida.
In this regard, the Director of the Media and Communications Office at the General Administration of Security Operations, First Lieutenant Ahmed Al-Maslati, urged merchants and citizens to exercise caution when conducting financial transactions through banking applications.
He warned against handing over goods or money based solely on images of bank deposit slips or receipts circulated via mobile phones, stressing the importance of verifying that funds have actually been credited to bank accounts through the banks' official channels.
He also urged the public to report any suspicious activities or attempted fraud in order to help protect money and property and combat financial crimes.
