Tripoli, 1 November 2026 (Lana)—U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, affirmed that the unification of Libya’s military and security institutions is essential to strengthening national sovereignty, ensuring lasting security and stability, and building a more cohesive state.

“Over the past year, Libyans from east and west have made meaningful progress through joint military initiatives to advance national unification, including participation in Exercise Flintlock 2026 in Sirte, the establishment of a joint operations center, and commitments to form an integrated air command,” Boulos said in a tweet today.

He stressed the need for these efforts to be accompanied by progress on the initiative to unify Libya’s political, economic, and judicial institutions to support a peaceful, prosperous, and unified Libya.

“We appreciate US Africa Command’s continued partnership in support of these Libyan-led efforts,” he added.
