New York, 28 October 2026 (Lana): Libya, in its capacity as Chair of the Arab Group at the United Nations for October, chaired the joint coordination meeting between the Arab Group and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Group at the level of deputy permanent representatives.
The meeting was dedicated to mobilizing support for a package of draft resolutions concerning the Palestinian issue, which are being presented to the United Nations General Assembly during its 81st session.
The meeting was chaired on the Arab side by Ambassador Issam Mohammed Al-Qaffah, Libya’s Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Permanent Representative, and on the Islamic side by the Deputy Alternate Permanent Representative of Türkiye, the current Chair of the Group.
Participants heard a briefing by Ambassador Majed Bamya, Deputy Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine, on the draft resolutions. These address support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in confronting the occupying forces’ legislation aimed at halting its activities, as well as attacks on its facilities and staff; the rights of Palestinian refugees to their properties and the revenues generated from them; and the draft resolution on settlements, which warns of the serious consequences of the E1 settlement project, aimed at separating Jerusalem from its surroundings, based on the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on 19 July 2024.
