Moscow, October 27, 2026 (LANA) – Chairman of the Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi, affirmed on Tuesday that Libya serves as a bridge between the two shores of the Mediterranean and acts as an effective contributor to regional and global energy security.

In his address at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) summit in Moscow, al-Menfi noted that the experiences of recent years have demonstrated that any political or security instability inevitably impacts markets—a cost borne by both producers and consumers alike. He underscored the necessity of insulating the energy market from political polarization and tensions.

According to the Russian news outlet RT, al-Menfi explained that natural gas will remain the most viable fuel for reducing emissions and ensuring energy security in the coming years. He called for the adoption of fair pricing mechanisms that reflect the true value of gas.

Al-Menfi further emphasized the importance of facilitating technology transfer and capacity building—particularly regarding emissions reduction—as well as strengthening African cooperation to foster development across the continent and achieve energy security.

Concluding his remarks, al-Menfi reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to playing an active role within the Forum, stressing that the country’s oil and gas sector constitutes a national asset belonging to all Libyans.

The Russian capital, Moscow, hosted the eighth summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum today, attended by President Vladimir Putin and leaders from member and observer states, amid the exceptional circumstances currently affecting the global energy market.
