Tripoli, October 26, 2026 (LANA) – Stephanie Khoury, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, participated yesterday, Sunday, in a UN simulation exercise in the city of Misrata. The event, which brought together 50 young men and women from across the country, was held as part of the United Nations Day celebrations.
The UN mission in Libya announced on its official page that the three-day event—organized in collaboration with the Debate and Dialogue Foundation—includes simulations of the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly, and the Economic and Social Council.
According to the mission, the sessions aim to provide participants with the opportunity to discuss diverse positions and perspectives, listen to opposing views, and analyze them critically. The goal is to reach a consensus and find common ground to move forward, as part of developing skills that are essential foundations for peacebuilding.
In her address to the youth, Koury noted that the Libyan experience has demonstrated the challenges inherent in building consensus, emphasizing that dialogue and compromise are indispensable elements for achieving sustainable political solutions.
The mission stated that the United Nations supports these efforts and facilitates dialogue, while ensuring inclusivity throughout the process. It further affirmed that the youth of Libya are the ones who will shape their country’s future, and that their continued acquisition and application of these skills strengthens confidence in the nation’s future.
