Benghazi, October 25, 2026 (LANA) – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Al-Salihin Abdulnabi Mohammed, has expressed the House’s condemnation and denunciation of the statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Libya—statements that included offensive characterizations infringing upon the dignity and standing of the Libyan people.

In a statement issued today, the Speaker affirmed that Libya is an independent, sovereign state, possessing a significant political and historical status both regionally and internationally, and is a member of the United Nations. He emphasized that the Libyan people—with their rich history and the sacrifices they have made for the sake of freedom and independence—deserve to be addressed in a manner that respects their dignity and standing, free from any insults or disparagement.

The Speaker underscored Libya’s commitment to maintaining friendly relations and cooperation with the United States, based on mutual respect and shared interests. He called upon the U.S. President to offer a clear and explicit apology to the Libyan people—an act that would reflect respect for Libya’s sovereignty and the dignity of its citizens, while preserving the foundations of the relationship between the two nations.

The statement noted that relations between states are built upon respect, understanding, cooperation, and shared interests. It asserted that political disputes or domestic considerations cannot justify insulting other peoples or undermining their standing. Furthermore, it reaffirmed that the House of Representatives’ steadfast commitment to Libya’s sovereignty, the dignity of its people, and its national and international standing remains an uncompromisable position.
