Libya Chairs the Meeting of the Arab Group of Permanent Representatives to the UN.

New York, 25 October 2026 (Lana): Libya chaired the meeting of the Arab Group of Permanent Representatives to the United Nations, dedicated to coordinating Arab positions on a number of nominations for positions and bodies within the United Nations.
The meeting was chaired by Libya’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Taher El-Sonni, in his capacity as Chair of the Arab Group for the month of October.
During the meeting, participants heard a briefing by Ali Krer, Libya’s candidate for the presidency of the International Civil Service Commission, as well as briefings by candidates from the Republic of Korea, France, Kenya, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Sierra Leone, and Ecuador for the position of judge at the International Court of Justice for the 2027–2036 term, as well as a briefing by Iraq’s candidate for membership of the United Nations Joint Inspection Unit.
