Cairo, October 24, 2026 (LANA) – Libyan House of Representatives member Abdulsalam Nassiya was elected Deputy Speaker of the Arab Parliament during a procedural session held this Saturday at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, Egypt.
According to the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Abdullah Bleihaq, Nassiya’s election to this position reflects the Libyan House of Representatives' active participation in the Arab Parliament. This strengthens Libya’s representation within the parliament’s leadership bodies and bolsters its role in joint Arab parliamentary action. During the same session, the Saudi candidate—Shura Council member Saad Al-Otaibi—was elected Speaker of the Arab Parliament by acclamation, succeeding the Emirati, Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi.
