Risks from a New Rainy Low-Pressure System Approaching Libya
Pulbished on:
Tripoli, October 23, 2026 (LANA) – The Ruya Foundation for Space Science and Applications has forecasted that Libya will be affected by a rainy low-pressure system. Its impact is expected to begin gradually starting tomorrow evening, Saturday, manifesting as scattered rain showers across parts of the coastline.
In a statement released on its website, the Foundation indicated that the peak of this system—which is expected to last for several days—will likely occur on Monday and Tuesday, October 26–27, with heavy rainfall at times.
The primary areas affected will include the coast and highlands of the Green Mountain (Jabal al-Akhdar), the western coast—specifically the stretch from Tripoli to Misrata—as well as the coast and plains of Benghazi, the coast of Sirte, and some nearby inland areas.
The Foundation explained that this low-pressure system is accompanied by a cold air mass in the upper atmosphere, which will intensify its activity. While the rainfall will occur intermittently, a wide geographical area is expected to fall within the system's range of impact.
The Ruya Foundation warned of potential risks, most notably the flooding of low-lying roads and streets, the flow of torrents in local valleys, and heavy rainfall in certain areas that could significantly reduce horizontal visibility. The Foundation urged the public to avoid travel and movement during the peak of the weather event.
