Ten individuals from the General Water Company detained for violating procurement regulations.

Pulbished on:

Tripoli – October 23, 2026 – (LANA) – The Public Prosecution has announced the pretrial detention of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Water and Wastewater Company, the head of the Contracts Department, and members of the company’s procurement receiving committee. The detention comes in connection with irregularities involving four contracts for the supply of water transport pipes to various municipalities.

On Thursday, the Public Prosecution stated that its investigation incorporated findings from an audit by the Audit Bureau regarding four contracts the company had entered into with a supplier. The total value of these contracts amounted to 16,639,000 Libyan dinars.

The investigation revealed that procurement award procedures had been violated. Furthermore, company officials accepted materials that did not meet the specifications stipulated in the contracts.

According to the Public Prosecution, the irregularities included the acceptance of pipes made from materials prone to rust—despite a requirement for the use of rust-resistant stainless steel—as well as deviations from specifications regarding the country of origin.

The Prosecution added that investigators uncovered the authorization of a payment of 4,459,000 Libyan dinars for one of the supply contracts, even though the value of the materials actually supplied—which failed to meet the required specifications—did not exceed 1,700,000 Libyan dinars.
